Chicago Personal Injury Firm Hires Former Assistant State's Attorney

Cogan & McNabola, P.C., a Chicago personal injury law firm, recently announced the hiring of James Navarre. Navarre joins the firm as an associate and will concentrate on medical negligence and personal injury.

Navarre began his legal career as a Cook County assistant state's attorney for seven years, during which he was first chair assigned to the felony trial division. He was responsible for the prosecution of more than 40 murder cases and tried more than 400 felony and misdemeanor cases.

Most recently, Navarre practiced law at Hinshaw & Culbertson, LLC, where he focused on professional liability, construction, civil rights, municipal and products liability litigation. His most recent trial was a complex legal malpractice case. The widely publicized case involved a wrongly convicted man suing his public defender for legal malpractice, alleging the applicable standard of care was not met because DNA and serology testing was not ordered. After a ten-day trial, the jury found the defendants not liable for malpractice.

During a decade of practicing law, Navarre has tried over 20 jury trials and his clients have suffered only one defeat.

In addition, Navarre has lectured at DePaul College of Law, Loyola University Chicago School of Law and coached national moot court teams. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1993 and he is a 1990 magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a background in neuroscience.
