November 6, 2007 A Cook Co. jury reached a $3.7 million verdict today in a medical malpractice case against Advocate Health Centers. The case was tried by attorney Ted McNabola of Cogan & McNabola, P.C. on behalf of the Lavern family. Thirty-eight year old Vonda Lavern was working as a bank teller when she began having chest pains in 2002. She went to Illinois Masonic Hospital where she was admitted and given a stress test. During the test, the procedure was stopped due to severe chest pain. Ms. Lavern was unable to complete the procedure and was released from the hospital. Four days later, she was found dead on her the kitchen floor. The autopsy determined that the cause of death was severely blocked arteries. |
