Medical Malpractice

Every day we trust our health and life to doctors and other medical personnel. We trust that they have the knowledge and skill needed to diagnose and treat us. And we trust that they will take actions based upon the available medical information to help us regain or maintain our health.

What we never expect is that a medical professional we count on to care for us will fail to use reasonable professional judgment and will cause us injury, or contribute to the death of a patient.

Medical negligence is often very difficult for average people to detect. Few people understand the complicated medical issues that are part of an illness or a pregnancy.

At the Chicago law office of Cogan & McNabola, P.C., our clients benefit from the unique background and talent of attorney Patti Tuttle. Ms. Tuttle worked for nearly 20 years as an intensive care nurse prior to becoming a lawyer. Her medical background and the extensive trial experience of our partners ensure that you receive thorough, effective representation in medical malpractice cases.

We have access to top medical experts from all over the country who help us review medical files and establish whether negligence occurred.

If you, your child, or another family member suffered injury, a worsened medical condition, or premature death because of the medical negligence of a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or other medical provider, contact the medical malpractice lawyers at Cogan & McNabola by e-mail, or call our firm at 312-629-2900 or toll-free at 1-800-704-2900.

Skillful Representation in All Medical Malpractice Cases

Our firm has handled a wide variety of medical and nursing malpractice cases that occurred in a hospital, clinic or emergency room. We fight hard for people who have been injured by surgical errors, delayed cancer diagnosis, prescriptions errors, ER mistakes and failure to provide prompt treatment, misdiagnosis of illness, failure to diagnose problems during pregnancy or childbirth, and delivery room mistakes causing birth injury.

Results and Justice for Patients and Families

Our firm has achieved significant verdicts and settlements for adults, children and newborns who suffered injuries and premature death because of medical negligence. Our attorneys are always willing to take a case to trial if that's what's needed to get you results.

·$6.8 Million for a 48 year-old woman who suffered brain damage after she was admitted to the University of Illinois Hospital for surgery to alleviate sleep apnea. Nursing staff failed to properly monitor her breathing and a tracheotomy tube clogged, leading to oxygen deprivation.

·$5.582 Million for a 5 month-old girl who received an overdose of sodium chloride at Roseland Hospital or in a Daley's ambulance. The child was supposed to receive 50 ccs of solution but instead received almost 500 ccs, causing swelling of the brain and resulting in mental retardation.

·$4.9 Million for a 9 year-old girl who underwent a cardiac procedure and was told to return to normal activity after her recovery. She collapsed and died during gym class at her suburban grade school. The autopsy found that the cause of death was a burn on her heart made during surgery.

·$3.7 Million for a 38 year-old man whose orthopedic surgeon prescribed excessive doses of extra-strength Vicodin following a routine out-patient bunionectomy. After ingesting the Vicodin as prescribed for three days, he suffered liver failure from the Tylenol component of Vicodin and died.

·$3.15 Million for a Chicago police officer who suffered partial loss of vision (and resulting loss of his job) because of complications (corneal cap detachment) and failure of the doctor to provide prompt and proper medical treatment during Lasik eye surgery. Our client also received a settlement from the manufacturer of the surgical machinery used during the procedure.

Don't Know If You Have a Case?

We don't want to put you through additional strain. If it is the opinion of our in-house medical attorney that we cannot get money for you, we will tell you so. We won't waste your time or raise false hopes.
